Oh my goodness, I love the annual Turkey-a-Thon and nearly missed my chance to hand a check to a turkey by rolling into Machias late on Friday. Thank goodness I was in time to see these wonderful smiling faces. This year’s Turkey-a-Thon raised more than $43,000 for local food pantries to deliver Thanksgiving meals! Thank you to organizers WQDY and Healthy Acadia for their devotion to this effort. Over 20 years, they’ve raised more than $500,000! Photo by Sarah Craighead Dedmon
You’d be hard-pressed to find a better Downeast accent than Michael Hoyt’s, though I don’t hear it as often since he sold the Machias Hardware Store and moved to the woods to live out his lifelong dream of being a semi-hermit.
