This week, something new on the podcast. Following our custom on the Washington County Almanac, this week we bring you some brief observances of the week at hand, an audio Postcard from Washington County.

Jamie Moore is a man of many abilities including carpentry, fishing and as you'll hear on this week's Washington County Writer's Corner, poetry.

Welcome to Way Downeast.

The Old Cutler Store

by pounded piers

dripping with seaweed

the great building was held up

high

its bottom floor

entwined with hackmatack boards

two layers

hovering over

open coastline stone

and savage ocean

nails rotted

now pitted rust stains

streaked

the loosed boards

free

perfectly sound

perfectly straight

priceless stunning finish

could never be counterfeited

white with salt

orange swirls of wood grain

polished by smashing tides

roman numerals scored

from sawyers of old

legendary holes chiseled in

epochs of fishermen

wore through

at work and play

the whole archive

carefully carried away

scrolled out board for board

into my daughters house we built

fastened down

for the ceiling over her head

because she loves stories

all her life she has always loved stories
