A Postcard From Washington County
Machias Town Manager Bill Kitchen was always delighted when Justin Albee of 4Shore Construction would use his crane to fly this massive flag over the Machias River on special occasions, like the 4th of July, or Memorial Day. Yesterday, the day of Bill’s memorial service, Justin set up the flag to fly at half staff, over Bad Little Falls Park, a place Bill especially loved. Photo by Sarah Craighead Dedmon
One moment after the last speaker stepped off the stage at Bill Kitchen’s Memorial Service, the high school gym lights shut off. It was the middle of the afternoon, so we could still make each other out to hug and cry together. But we were all a little surprised by its abruptness.
